Mr Gordon Bullock was the Tourism Manager at Bathurst City Council in the 1960/70s and passed away in 1977. He was a journalist and the public face of Bathurst City Council. This scholarship was established in memory of his contribution to promoting Bathurst and provides financial assistance to a local Communications / Journalism student.

Formerly known as the Sky News Television Production Scholarship, it was renamed the Sky News David Banks Memorial Scholarship in 2007 in honour of David Banks who passed away earlier that year and was one of Sky News Australia’s longest serving staff members. David was instrumental in training many of the network’s young production staff including graduates of CSU. Sky News is Australia’s leading multiplatform news service provider, commencing its 24-hour operations in February 1996 becoming the first Australian-produced television news channel.

This scholarship honours the memory of Mr Ian Cook, who played a key role in the establishment of Sky News Australia in 1995. After serving as founding Chief Operating Officer, he was a director for BSkyB, Nine and Seven networks at various times. Mr Cook later joined the Sky News staff as News Director and helped establish Sky News New Zealand and help launch National Indigenous Television News. Mr Cook made a great contribution to the mentoring of hundreds of young journalists. Charles Sturt University’s journalism degree and its students were very close to his heart, and it’s fitting that his name be associated with this scholarship.

Since 1969, Bathurst Broadcasters has been locally owned and operated by Ron and Stephanie Camplin. Winner of 65 Commercial Radio Awards, 2BS is an adult contemporary talk radio station, whose announcers are personalities informing and entertaining listeners in Bathurst, Blayney, Oberon and surrounds. Ron and Stephanie are passionate supporters of higher education and the Radio 2BS Scholarship has been awarded to worthy CSU students since 1984.
